The Pals started back in 1982 shortly after their
founder, Bill Peterson, lost his sight in a snowmobile accident. While
attending a school for the blind in Salt Lake City, he met a number of
disabled children. Working with these children he began to realize how
difficult it is for them to enjoy many of the activities he took for granted
as a child.
In June of 1983 they sponsored our first camp. They had fifteen people in
attendance. From this small beginning to this year’s three camps, they
have grown into a statewide organization reaching over ten thousand people.
Today, the children enjoy riding a fire truck, train, hay wagon, and horses,
along with golfing, swimming, and canoeing.
